Scientist / Senior Scientist

 

Wildcat is looking for highly-motivated candidates to lead fast paced, cutting edge discovery projects for next generation batteries. This position will work closely with Wildcat scientists, engineers and management on all aspects of the discovery effort. As an early-stage hire, the successful candidate(s) will play a significant and influential role in the company. Position level will be dependent on experience.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Using Wildcat’s high-throughput technology to rapidly synthesize novel materials and identify promising candidates for batteries, gas separation, and other energy-related applications; and
  • Developing new equipment for rapid materials synthesis and screening as well as developing new applications for existing equipment.

 

Requirements include:

  • A track record of individual technical accomplishment;
  • Entrepreneurial drive, demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast paced environment; and
  • A Ph. D., advanced degree, or equivalent experience in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, physics, or other relevant disciplines.

 


 

Business Development Manager

 

Wildcat is looking for highly-motivated candidate for Business Development Manager to generate licensing and collaborative R&D sales and new funding via government grant solicitations. The successful candidate will work closely with Wildcat’s customers to rapidly identify and communicate key industry needs to Wildcat scientists and management. As an early-stage hire, the successful candidate(s) will play a significant and influential role in the company and must be both technically and commercially conversant. The Business Development Manager will report to the Vice President of Business Development and will be based in San Diego, CA.

 

Wildcat’s business model fosters revenue generation from R&D partnerships, royalties from licensing, and eventually revenues from commercial applications. We work with leading battery industry companies throughout the supply chain in addition to top academic laboratories and experts in the field to discover, optimize and validate new materials as the medium of choice for storage applications. We also aggressively seek government grants to support development of our novel technology and materials.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Identify, evaluate and secure opportunities for use of the Company's high-throughput, combinatorial technology for materials discovery efforts both within and beyond battery applications;
  • Secure both licensing and collaborative R&D revenues, in addition to new funding via government grant solicitations;
  • Assess the competitive landscape and market opportunities for new primary and secondary battery materials in transportation, electronics, military, power storage and other applications;
  • Work with the internal team, SAB and outside experts to conduct strategic positioning, market assessment and analysis of the Company's initial product opportunities;
  • Serve as a champion and spokesperson to government agencies and potential corporate partners who may help the Company to extend its platform and develop its key applications; and
  • At least 50% travel expected.

Requirements include:

  • A Ph.D. or advanced degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, physics, or other relevant disciplines is required. Additional post-degree experience in energy related fields is a plus.
  • An MBA is strongly preferred;
  • At least 5 years experience of successful business development and commercialization of new inorganic materials and/or R&D discovery services, preferably in the areas of batteries, gas storages, advanced alloys, photovoltaics, and thermoelectrics;
  • Strong understanding of novel energy storage technologies, markets and customers and ability to craft strategies to access those markets using the Company's technology;
  • Laboratory experience in the development of materials in energy related fields, particularly batteries;
  • Experience with startup companies or rapid growth environments; and
  • Experience with U.S. Federal Government Development and Grant programs as well as the application/qualification processes required.

Laboratory Technician

 

Wildcat is seeking highly motivated technician to join our Materials Synthesis Department. This position will work closely with key Wildcat scientists and engineers to support the discovery effort. Primary responsibilities will include operation of automated lab equipment and cleaning tools used in Wildcat’s high throughput discovery effort.

 

Requirements include:

  • High attention to detail and precision is essential;
  • A.S. or higher degree in a scientific field (chemistry, biology, materials science, etc.) or equivalent experience;
  • Experience multitasking in a deadline oriented environment;
  • Knowledge of appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE);
  • Ability to perform mildly physically strenuous activity; and
  • Must be able to work independently and effectively communicate with scientists, engineers, and research associates.

Preferred skills:

  • Laboratory experience including (but not limited to) working under an inert atmosphere, battery cell assembly, automated machine management, and pipetting is a plus;
  • 2 or more years in a research environment is desirable; and
  • Knowledge of chemical laboratory safety procedures, common machine shop equipment, and/or battery fabrication techniques is very advantageous.
